Active Aging Week - What Are You Doing?
Did you know that the week of September 24 through October 1, 2007 is Active Aging Week? Actually, it’s celebrated every year and has to do with those of us who are chronologically advantaged pursuing healthy lifestyles.
Of course, there’s no way you can disagree with that. It was only when I was much younger that I “celebrated” living an unhealthy lifestyle through an assortment of overindulgences.
According to the International Council on Active Aging, aging well is all about remaining active. Here’s what they say:
“Active aging means living life as fully as possible. How well we age has much more to do with how well we function, and a lot less to do with the years. And we all function better when we take a walk, visit friends and family, work crosswords or work for money, and sing and dance.”
This has led me to take a look at my coming week and wondering whether I’m in there pitching actively in light of the fact that I’ll be turning 71 this coming Saturday. Well, let’s see, here’s some of what I’ll be doing:
1. Writing Several articles.
2. Counting and depositing funds for a group of which I’m treasurer.
3. Meeting a client for whom I’m developing a website.
4. Walking my dog.
5. Catching a flight to the Bay Area first thing Wednesday morning.
5. Renting a car and driving to visit two of my daughters and grandchildren in Santa Cruz.
6. Travelling on Friday to Sonoma to stay with an old friend.
7. Getting together with old friends in Marin County.
8. Attending an all day event put on by a group of which I’m a member on Saturday. I think they have something planned for my birthday.
9. On Sunday, Im going to a party for a friend who just adopted a Baby.
10. On Monday, October 1, I’m flying back to Idaho, picking up my dog and paying my mortgage.
I don’t know about you, but I think I’m going to be keeping sort of busy this week. If that’s active aging, I’ll take it.
What are you going to be doing? Please feel free to leave a comment below.
