Skin Care for Anti Aging Using Alpha-lipoic Acid From Dr. Perricone
This is another in a series of articles outlining the ten best over the counter skin care ingredients for effective anti aging skin care regimens. You may wish to review AgeNotes.Com's list of the ten best anti aging skin care ingredients.
Alpha-lipoic Acid: Well known as a potent antioxidant, topical alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) has burst upon the aging skin care scene through it's popularization by a Yale dermatologist, Dr. Nicholas Perricone. He launched the skin rejuvenation studies of alpha-lipoic acid and wrote a top selling book extolling it titled The Wrinkle Cure. His studies, while impressive, have yet to be scientifically corroborated, so some caution is in order.
Dr. Perricone has developed his own skin care line which suggests that there is a potential for conflict of interest from a scientific standpoint. Products containing this ingredient are increasing rapidly, but are rather costly.
Nonetheless, there seems to be a good foundation for believing in the effectiveness of Dr. Perricone's products and they are considered safe.
The known benefits of Alpha lipoic acid are calming of inflammation, reduction of under eye dark circles and puffiness, decrease of fine lines and wrinkles, treatment of minor scarring, and reduction of enlarged pores. This all leads, of course, to a rejuvenated, healthy and vibrant glow to the skin.
