Failed Back Surgery Syndrome is a condition called after patients have not had success with a traditional back surgery. There are many reasons for this, it does not matter if you had the best of doctors or best indications for this surgery. There are two outcomes of spinal surgery; decompression of a nerve root and to stabilize a joint.

Many patients do not get this result. Unfortunately, back surgery does not cut out the patient's pain. Surgery changes the anatomy of the body or the anatomy of the injury and the probable cause of the pain. By far the the initial effect of the surgery is not effective is that the area operated on is not the main cause of the pain!

Therefore the best way to avoid FBSS is to try conservative treatment and procedures. Conservative procedures have a higher degree of success and prevent the traditional back surgery. Spinal Decompression may be the answer you are looking for you back pain rather than traditional surgery!

In addition think about the pros and cons BEFORE agreeing to traditional Spinal Surgery. Several other potential causes of a failed surgery, or continued pain after surgery they are: Fusion surgery considerations -such as failure to fuse and/or implant failure, or a transfer lesion to another level after a spine fusion, when the next level degenerates and becomes a pain generator.

Lumbar decompression back surgery considerations may cause recurrent stenosis or disc herniation, inadequate decompression of a nerve root, preoperative nerve damage that does not heal after a decompressive surgery, or nerve damage that occurs during the surgery. Scar tissue considerations and Postoperative rehabilitation (continued pain from a Traditional Surgery).

Considering the risks and poor success rate of traditional spinal surgery, Spinal Decompression may be a safer, better alternative. Check with a Chiropractic decompression specialist about your condition and the benefits of this procedure

There's a striking phenomenon in progress in the world today, that of the birth rate being lower than the death rate. For the first time in history, there is an increased and swelling aging population of adults (baby boomers) versus adolescents, young adults, and children. Thanks to modern medicine, people are living longer and are focusing on lives filled with good health, relatively free of pain.

However, the current methods of longevity often involve plenty of prescription medication and invasive surgeries, some of them overused. There is an alternative to taking pills to cure pains and aches, and it's one that's been in existence for quite a long time. Acupuncture is becoming more and more popular as a good method of treating many common health complaints people suffer.

Acupuncture is Not New

Acupuncture is by no means something new or a current trend that will fall from favor. In fact, the technique has been in use for over two thousand years, mostly in China. In the recent past, acupuncture's positive results have gained notoriety in the Western world, and many people turn to the technique because of its non-invasiveness. Acupuncture can easily treat many illnesses and common complaints, such as back pain, depression, and even nausea from chemotherapy, with little side effects and a rapid recovery time.

The procedure begins with an initial consultation with the licensed acupuncturist, akin to a standard office visit. There are questions asked regarding past medical history, a standard physical, and then the areas which need to be addressed during the acupuncture session. It is comparative to a visit to the chiropractor where the issue is not solved with one visit, as acupuncture often takes many visits to find relief, though many patients report some immediate alleviation to the pain.

What About the Needles?

During acupuncture, a series of thin, solid needles are inserted at different points into the body. There are more than two thousand of these points that run along what are called meridians, or pathways. There are fourteen pathways within the body that keep the body's energy, or Qi (pronounced chee), flowing. It is believed that when these meridians become blocked, then illness occurs. After insertion, the needles are then manipulated by various means, and the patient is left to relax for a period of time. Once that time has expired, the needles are removed. It most often takes several visits to work on a painful problem, so instantaneous relief should not be expected.

Acupuncture is more common than most individuals think, being used in small hospitals, halfway houses, drug treatment programs, and even jails, as a means to help people lead longer, healthier lives, ones that might normally be lived under the duress of chronic pain, addiction, or depression. Acupuncture will continue to be a solid alternative to standard medical treatments. Scientists will continue to monitor its results and perhaps every community in the world will take note of its curative properties. Maybe then individuals can start concentrating on other things in life, other than pain and misery.

Today's lifestyle is fast-paced and pressures to perform are intense. Just one look out your window at rushing cars and people hurrying to and fro gives you a good idea of the stress-filled world we live in. Tensions start to pile up with each new day and by the time evening rolls around, individuals are feeling exhausted, with sore aching muscles and a general feeling of not being able to relax. Those moving along in the aging process are likely to feel these symptoms to a greater degree. There are ways to combat this sense of general malaise, and less invasive ones than taking prescription medication to deal with daily life.

As the immune system begins to become taxed, more germs and sickness are allowed in, thus complicating things further. Colds, backaches, migraines, flu-like symptoms, and feeling tired make each day worse than the one before. A person cannot always call in sick to work and take a day off to rest. Perhaps they cannot take cold medicine or other prescribed medications because it interferes with their ability to function during the day. Who wants to feel like a walking zombie? No one should be forced to go around feeling like their head is stuck inside a bucket from all of the side effects from various medications.

Wouldn't it be good to feel better, have more energy, get rid of those muscle aches and pains, and even have migraines ease up or go away completely? Is it worth a shot? What if this alternative came with very little risk of side effect? It sounds pretty appealing, and it might be surprising to learn that this procedure is acupuncture.

Acupuncture Has Been Around For Thousands of Years

Acupuncture might seem like the current rage in alternative medicine, but it has been around for thousands of years. Acupuncture's roots can be traced back to the Taoist tradition. Practitioners of acupuncture, before it was called so, would meditate on how man and the world's energy merged with each other. The flow of nature was within the human body and governed by a life force or energy called Qi (pronounced chee). Within the body, as in nature, there were lines that energy ran down. These lines are called meridians, and there are fourteen meridians within the human body. From these fourteen meridians, there are thousands of points that allow the blocked energy (from bodily injury, stress, or a poorly cared-for self) to be corrected.

The acupuncturist, after an initial physical and questioning the patient about his or her past medical history, will locate the damaged or blocked area and begin work. Thin, solid needles are inserted into the skin. It is virtually painless. The needles are then manipulated by the hand or electrical stimulation. The acupuncturist then leaves the patient to rest and relax before coming back in to remove the needles.

Will Acupuncture Become More Mainstream?

While acupuncture is a great alternative to traditional medicine, it should not be expected to be an instant miracle cure. Some patients do report a noticeable difference within one visit, but more often, it takes many visits to see great improvement. Another great bonus is that more and more insurance plans are covering CAM, or Complimentary Alternative Medicine, thus allowing individuals the opportunity to try something different. With little side effect, acupuncture is certainly worth trying. Just think - no more medicine head and no worrying about falling asleep at work from the effects of cold medicine or drugs. It is definitely worth a shot, especially if the aging process is catching up with you.
