Well, it's that time of year when many are resolving to shed some pounds. Suffering from diabetes as some of us do in the aging process, however, can pose some complications. Can the Adkins Diet play a role in controlling blood sugar? Find out by reading further.

The Atkins diet principles lay the foundation for a healthy, more balanced way of eating the standard American diet. His emphasis is on the proper use of carbohydrates in balance with adequate protein. This is in stark contrast to what most Americans eat every day. The average American eats many processed foods that have been hidden sugars and highly processed carbohydrates. This has put most Americans on the path to diabetes and pre-diabetic conditions. What is sad is that diabetes is a series of predictable stages and can be easily recognized.

The road to diabetes has to do with something called the glycemic index. All carbohydrates are rated on this index with regards to the level of insulin reaction they produce. Foods that have a high glycemic index rating will cause your pancreas to release a lot of insulin to break down the amount of sugars and carbohydrates (which produce high amounts of glucose). The refined carbohydrates and sugars that make up the vast majority of the American diet rank very high on the glycemic index.

We are able to more readily digest these foods as children, because our bodies function more efficiently in our youth. There may have been side effects, like weight gain and mood swings, but they didn't stand out. As we age, however, these symptoms begin to grow and become more prevalent. The nation-wide obesity epidemic is a result of high-carbohydrate diets and unstable blood sugar levels.

Many people who are overweight are also insulin resistant. Insulin resistance means that the insulin is not doing its job in removing glucose from the blood stream. The pancreas gets over worked and it releases massive amounts of insulin, sometimes 20 times more than the body actually needs. This results in the blood sugar dropping to extremely low levels. This sets off a chain reaction in the body that leads to a release of adrenaline to correct the blood sugar problem.

With age, blood sugar and insulin more difficulties compounded. The condition is called "hyperinsulinism" and is a precursor of type II diabetes. It is usually accompanied by high blood pressure and high triglycerides. After years of using a high-carbohydrate diet, you are finally in full diabetics. Insulin is the principal organ of the fat and creator pounds usually accompany late-onset diabetes. Conditions of pre-diabetics, if not treated effectively, will lead to diabetes indefinitely.

However, there are warning signs easily identifiable with diabetes appearing early. Your family doctor can perform tests insulin levels that will allow you to know if you are at risk for pre-diabetic conditions, and studies show that a diet low in carbohydrates like Atkins can help. Controlling blood sugar is one of the most effective methods for the control of pre-diabetic conditions.

The Atkins diet helps to effectively control blood sugar. The combination of proteins, fats and carbohydrates maintain good body satisfied without the roller coaster effect. Controlling the amount of carbohydrates and the type will help limit the peak insulin. This will allow his pancreas work in the way they are meant to be, and that will reduce the likelihood of your development of pre-diabetic conditions. It is a vicious circle which, if unchecked, can lead to diabetes later in life. When the Atkins diet is followed effectively that produces blood sugar stable throughout the day and helps you stay off the road to diabetes.

Millions of people in the world are diabetic and people diagnosed with diabetes are not prepared for the illness or the possible complications that accompanies it. The most common diabetes is type 2 diabetes. This is when the body's cells ignore insulin production and the body can not produce enough insulin (insulin helps break down glucose or blood sugar that creates energy). Since insulin is necessary in taking sugar from the blood and delivering them to the cells, this impairment of this important body function and greatly put a person's life at risk.

At first, being diagnosed with this news could be quite dire but there is always a way to maintain live a good life. Type 2 diabetes or diabetes mellitus is a serious illness but many patients have lived a long and enjoyable lives. Knowing the pertinent details that come with diabetes will help improve a patient's chances of surviving the disease.

Diabetes can affect any race at any age but there are some groups that are in higher risk of the development of type 2 diabetes. Diabetes is more common among Latinos, African Americans, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, Asians and most of the older population. What has been observed as a major concern for those with type 2 diabetes is obesity and excessive weight gain.

The weight gain is caused by the decrease of insulin resistance, reduced blood pressure and reduced lipemia. Since weight gain is a common problem among type 2 diabetes patients, it is important that they maintain a healthy lifestyle and a diet that is suited to their condition. What needs to be looked at is weight gain and therefore most patients need to undergo weight loss.

Those who have gained a lot of weight due to their diabetes have many options for weight loss. There are a variety of weight-reduction diets and low-calorie diets. Weight-reduction diets are not as effective as low-calorie diets and a problem is that some people who have tried the former, have a difficult time maintaining their normal weight.

Other strategies of weight loss among patients include meal replacements, weight loss medications and repetitive uses of low-calorie diets. Meal replacements come in both solid and liquid form (this has been proven effective in maintenance once a patient has lost a considerable amount of weight). Oral medications help patients lose some weight because they can maintain blood sugar at a certain level. Very low-calorie diets must be closely supervised by a physician since it could result into metabolic abnormalities.

The cheapest form of weight control is exercise. A patient suffering from a medical condition should consult his physician about an exercise for their present condition. And should strictly follow the regiment assigned to them. Regular exercise and a proper diet can definitely lead to a healthy lifestyle.

When a patient receives a diagnosis of being diabetic and what they need to battle it, it is important that one receives the support of family and/or friends. Support is very important and weight loss goals can be achieved. Education is not only for a person suffering from the condition but also for relatives who need to understand the nature of the disease and the conditions that come with type 2 diabetes.
