Will Medicare Advantage Be Repealed in Health Care Reform?

President Obama insists that those who wish to retain their present health insurance coverage will be able to do so without interference from the Government under any forthcoming Health Care Reform.

He can insist all he wants, but that's not really true in one major aspect. On July 28, 2009 Obama told the AARP that he wants to eliminate $177 billion in subsidies to Medicare Advantage programs which are very popular with seniors because they offer benefits and care coordination which basic Medicare plans do not provide. This means, basically, that he wishes to see Medicare Advantage repealed. However, he smoothes that over with assertions that there will be no change in Medicare benefits to seniors. Are You Having Doubts About Your Drinking Habits?

As folks move along in the aging process, sometimes alcohol consumption can begin to increase without really being all that conscious of it. Alcoholism is a progressive disease. It only gets worse, and never better. As we age, it's often the lifestyle illnesses, ones we could have avoided, that nail us - cancer or emphysema from smoking, or cirrhosis of the liver, heart disease or worse from alcohol consumption.

Home Care Services for Seniors vs. Nursing Homes

I'm now in my 70s. From time to time I reflect on my parents, both long deceased now, who needed an increasing amount of care as they entered their 80s. While it's true that an aging population by and large is healthier these days, I have to acknowledge that living a vigorous life won't go on forever.

Like so many experiencing the aging process, I have a revulsion at the thought of having to go into a nursing home. Simply stated, I want to live in my own home for as long as it's humanly possible.
